SEDATION DENTISTRY LEAGUE CITY
Nitrous Oxide
This is the most common form of sedation that patients are familiar with for more routine dental procedures. Nitrous oxide is commonly used for patients of all ages and is carefully regulated to provide you with a comfortable and relaxed state safely. Nitrous oxide is inhaled through a nasal mask and once turned off, the nitrous oxide gas is replaced with 100% oxygen to return you to your normal state. Because nitrous oxide can be so easily titrated and eliminated, you are not required to have any one drive you to or from your appointment.
Oral Sedation
Oral conscious sedation is an excellent way to help you reach a highly relaxed state without the use of a needle. Simply put, you will take a pill at a certain point before your procedure. Once it kicks in, you will feel at-ease and you will feel less concerned about your surroundings. Oral CONSCIOUS sedation, as in the name, will not put you to sleep; it may make you sleepy or you may even doze off, but a gentle nudge will typically be enough to wake you up.
We require a trust friend or family member to bring you to and from the appointment because it can take some time before the effects of the medication wear off. That being said, it’s best you plan to spend the remainder of the day resting when oral conscious sedation was used.
IV Sedation
IV sedation has become a more common practice in the general dental field due to its ability to help those with extreme dental anxiety or fear. While Dr. Williams does not administer the IV sedation herself, she involves a highly trained and specialized anesthesiologist to provide the medication so she can focus fully on the treatment at hand. When discussing IV sedation, we will review your oral and medical health history in depth to be sure all proper steps are taken to ensure your safety and comfort.
