Are You Having Trouble Sleeping?
Do you often feel tired during the day regardless of how long you slept? Have you been told that you grind your teeth at night? Do you or your partner snore? What about headaches, irritability, or inability to focus? You or someone you know may be suffering from Obstructive Sleep Apnea (OSA) or Sleep Disordered Breathing. Sleep apnea is a serious condition that we often brush off as something different, but it is estimated to affect between 10-30% of adults in the US with many cases being undiagnosed. Call us today to talk about some options to help get you sleeping better and safer!
What is OSA?
Obstructive sleep apnea is a condition in which your ability to maintain your airway while sleeping is restricted, effectively stopping your breathing - these are called apneic events. The symptoms may be difficult to identify if you sleep alone. The apneic events can occur several times throughout the night or, in the most severe cases, several hundred times a night. As you can imagine, this can greatly affect your sleep, but more importantly can severely affect your overall health. OSA can contribute to or worsen conditions such as heart disease, diabetes, hypertension, depression and anxiety, and obesity, and it can increase your risk of stroke. In children, many of the symptoms of sleep apnea may be misdiagnosed as ADHD. Call our office today to obtain more information on sleep apnea and see what your options for treatment might be!
